Heramba Ganapati is the 11th Ganapati among the thirty two Ganapatis. It is the five-faced Lord form of Ganesha. The 32 forms of Lord Vinayaka are very famous. This is one of them. Brahma Vaivartha Purana beautifully explains the meaning of the word Heramba. “Hey” means “helpless state”. “Ramba” means “protection”. Thus “Heramba” means “protector of the helpless”.

Heramba Ganapati’s name has been specially mentioned in various Puranas. He is one of the 32 forms of Vinayaka in ‘Mutkala Purana’. The Skanda Mahapurana mentions Heramba Ganapati as one of the 56 most special Ganeshas located in Varanasi and is considered to be the best.

The Brahma Vaivartha Purana, the Padma Purana, the Sindhiagam and the Ganesha Purana also mention Heramba Ganapati.

Heramba Ganapathi Ganapati’s dhyana structure:

Heramba is an incarnation of Maha Ganapati Green mixed with dark color and five faces. He is seated in a lion chariot holding Abhayam and Varadam in his hands, gracefully holds a laddoo, Hammer, Garland, Elephant Goad, Rosary, Axe, and other auspicious fruits in other hands.The fact that he is seated in a lion vehicle is a special feature of Ambika’s power. Therefore it is certain that those who are at a higher level in spirituality can worship this Lord Heramba Ganesha and attain further enlightenment.

This form is important in Tantric worship. Heramba Ganesha worship is very popular in Nepal. Pudukottai Arulmiku Sri in Tamil Nadu The Bhubaneswari Devi temple has a separate shrine for Panchamuga Heramba Ganapati which is very special.
